Help Gmail app assistance - adding email to existing contacts

mrbonelly

Newbie
Hello,
Just updated my s4 to 4.4.2 and it auto updated my old gmail app to version 4.7.1 by default.
I kept preferred my gmail version to the older(4.6??) because I disliked the picture label(blocked colored letters) concept and misc other tweaks I didn't like.
Well now I can't seem to add a new email address(from a brand new correspondence/sender) to an existing contact. Before I was able to click on the "blank person" logo on the top left and it would ask to add to an existing contact or create a new one. Now I can't, it will not provide that option. Existing linked emails do provide such options, just the new, never before interacted-with email addresses do not have the option.

If it sounds confusing, think of redbox. They have a telephone #, email address for promotions, a different email address for interaction/support. Before if another email address was used by redbox for any purpose, I was able to add it to my existing Redbox contact. I can't now, because it's a new email/correspondence.

Is the option hidden somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the assistance

Did you ever find out what was causing this issue? I am having the same issue and can't figure it out. In fact sometimes I will see the option for a split second and then it will disappear.

That sucks. I'm thinking it's a Gmail issue rather than a s4 issue because I am having the same problem on my nexus 10
