Gmail App Chat

I had saved some Gmail app chat to my memory stick to view on my W7 laptop.
Until recently I have been able to view and read the content no problem. Now when I open the file all there is are lines and lines of code. What have I done? What has changed? Can I convert this code stuff back to plain english?

On your laptop does it ask you how you want to read the selection . a popup should mention something such as default or ???????
