Help Gmail app has stopped working

Yesterday my gmail app stopped working: it wont update, it won't push new emails and I cannot send mail from it.

Just before this happened I had a massive clear out of my contacts as I had multiple copies of the same contact and the phone complained that I had exceeded the maximum number of deletions and I think this may have had something to do with it.

Does anyone have any idea what is happening here? I have 2 step verification set up.

Edit: I wiped data in Titanium Backup and rebooted and that worked for a while, but I still have the problem.

Before rooted, I had similar to this kind of issue then i did factory reset and resolved. But now I don't think it's possible. If anything worked, pls post it back.

I ended up doing a factory reset - then I had problems with Play but eventually got it sorted so it's 'fingers crossed' now. All this trouble just because I wanted to merge a few contacts. I don't know ow if I solved it or if it solved itself
