Gmail app resends old emails

Gmail app (on my Nexus 4) resends old emails randomly on its own. No real pattern, but usually ones w photo attachments. Can be months old or only a day or to. Its very confusing for the message recipients, eg. work contacts receiving old messages about completed projects, and so its causing me problems of course. I've tried just reinstalling available updates.
Any fix for this?
