Gmail attachments and data

Is there a way to configure Gmail on your android that it won't load emails with attachments, but you will still receive them on your PC? It would seem if you could, it would save you on data charges due to the size of the attachments.

Based on how long it takes to view an attachment after I tap the Preview button, it would seem that attachments aren't actually downloaded until you try to view them. If that's the case, you shouldn't need to separate email with attachments to conserve data.
