Help Gmail contacts not syncing from phone

jstuntz

Newbie
I have asked and asked different forums and searched for an answer and still have no idea or know how to fix this.

The last time my contacts were able to be synced from my S3 was 8-26-12. It continues to tell me that "sync is experiences problems and will be up shortly". The issue is that all other areas sync just fine.

I got my phone in June when it came out and up until 8-26 it would sync just fine.

I know that there are new contacts on my phone and if something happens to it, I wont have those contacts in my gmail contacts on the computer. I have checked occassionally online to see if those contacts are there and indeed, they are not.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this, something to look for on my phone, check a setting, etc? Has anyone else had this issue?

Not sure if this will work, but give it a try anyway:
Log in to your google account on your desktop and go to contacts. Now check to make sure that all the contacts are in the 'my contacts' group and not in sub-lists. If the contacts are in sublists, take them out of it and put them in the main contact group. Delete the lists after you empty them & then try syncing.

Taken from Google:
When you're getting the error message that sync currently isn't available, go into manage applications and clear the data in "Contact Storage", but then you also need to clear the phone's cache. I know that with the HTC Incredible, there has been a persistent problem with the phone telling users that there's a lack of internal storage, when that isn't the case. Clearing the phone's cache fixes that problem, and it fixed the sync problem for me as well. Here's how to do it:

Boot into recovery
Press and hold Power, Choose "Restart" option
When screen turns off, press and hold Volume Down and Power
When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
Using the volume button, scroll down to “Wipe cache partition” and select it.
Select "Reboot system now"
After you've followed these steps, check and see if your sync is working now, it worked for me. Good luck!

I then saw ur post. After I found out how to get into recovery mode, it's the power up button instead, I followed the rest of ur instructions and bam! It worked!! Thank you for your help. I now know what to do if and when it locks up again. I'm glad to know that the additional 15 contacts on my phone are now in my Google acct in case something happens to the phone. Thank you for your help.
