Help Gmail contacts on Captivate

Has anyone else had issues with how Gmail contacts are syncing on the Captivate? I tried separating my contacts in Gmail into different groups (ex. family, friends, coworkers) but then they don't appear on my phone. And I still see that any e-mail address I send a message to via Gmail is automatically being added to My Contacts list. I'd rather not have EVERY single address I send to show up in contacts. Any suggestions? Sorry if this has already been addressed by someone else.

It only syncs contacts that are in the main google contacts, not in groups. Also you can set the phone to only show people with a phone number.

But another workaround that I did is to make a separate gmail account specifically for the phone to use as an address book, sign into market, etc and not send any email from that account, and tell it not to sync contacts from your regular "email" gmail.

Upgrade Captivate to Froyo (Android 2.2). You can then choose what groups to show.
