Help Gmail/Email not Syncing

My gmail Email is not syncing with my phone automatically and it's driving me nuts. I have the phone set on Wi-fi, and in Performance mode and the email still doesn't sync unless I do it manually. Should I be looking for another Email app? TBH i can't even find any options like what i had on 2.1 to where i could change the frequency of syncing options.
 
It is my understanding that the gmail app syncs according to the google polling algorithm.

There are no sync frequency options with gmail.

You should go to menu - settings - accounts and see if the boxes to sync are checked.
 
Thats odd, it's just annoying i have gone nearly 2 days and haven't gotten an email notification and then when I manually sync i'm looking at 15 emails >.<.
 
No boxes to check. GOing to my accounts i have Facebook, google, clicking google gives me the option to sync Contacts, Gmail, and Calender should i click on them, but no option for auto syncs.
 
Checking the boxes will make it sync automatically.
Just in case also put the power control widget on one of the screens and make sure the sync button is on.
Long press an empty part of the screen, choose android widgets, power control.
 
Having done a little looking looks like my ATK might have been shutting down my Gmail, so i'm going to see if that was doing it.

There is a great article written by one of our Mods - Lekky re task killers. Read it and stop killing the tasks as it has no use in a phone like D2.
