Gmail Email Widget Causes Excessive Battery Drain

If you are experiencing excessive battery drain on your Razr you might be interested in reading this.

Overall, I have been getting excellent battery life on my Maxx, usually 2 to 3 days before getting down to 20% and having to recharge. But I am always in search of ways to make things better so I did a FDR/cache clean and installed the .215 leak. As expected, the first few days were a bit less than usual but after "settling in" I started getting excellent battery life as well as increased performance again and I was happy.... or so I thought...

I decided that since I was starting from scratch, I would not install the apps I don't regularly use (about 2/3 of them) and only install waht I need. Did that and all was well.

Since I had an extra home screen just begging to be used, I decided to try the gmail widget so I could see all my emails without having to launch the app, so I put the gmail widget on one of my blank screens.

Well, guess what.... I barely made it through the day on a single charge. Thinking it was a fluke, I powered down for the night and let it charge til the morning. Rebooted and after about an hour or so I was down to 60%!! Uh oh.

I decided to go a few more days and see how things went and was still getting less than a full day. So, I did some back tracking and thought hmmm the last thing I did before this happened was placing the gmail widget on my screen so I deleted it. The rest of the day went as normal and battery life was better.

I let it go a couple days and everything was back to stellar so I thought, lets give this a try again and see what happens and reinstalled the widget. Well.... battery life went down again.... rapidly. This time I removed it again and decided to no longer use it and after 2 hours, I'm still showing 100%.

So, if you are getting terrible battery life and are using the email widget (the one that shows your emails on the screen), try removing it and see if your battery life improves. It did (significantly) for me.
