Gmail groups not syncing with address book on iMac

Guys,
I have recently switched from iPhone to Galaxy Nexus and I have an issue getting my gmail contacts to sync correctly with my address book on my iMac.
The problem is that I have many groups set up on my gmail account but when I sync (automatically) only the contacts sync not the groups......does it mean that I have to create the groups manually or am I doing soothing wrong??

On Gmail on the web, export your contacts as vcard file.

On Address Book, File, Export, export your entire address book as a backup, also as vcard file.

Import the Google vcard file to Address Book, resolve duplicates. If things get balled up, erase address book and import its backup vcard file to restore.
