Help Gmail isn't notifying

I'm running Android version 2.3.6 and the settings I usually checked on 2.3.4 aren't set up the same. Ive checked settings on the phone in Accounts, as well as the settings within Gmail. They all look right, but obviously I'm missing something.

I have to manually sync each time. Any ideas?

From your email...settings, select your account, click "sync inboxes and labels", select what you want to sync (I only sync the inbox), go back one screen, check the box for "email notifications", then click "labels to notify", from there you can set the notification ringtone, etc.

That's pretty much how I've had it set up and why I said I think it all 'looks right'. It just makes sense to have it this way. I'm not sure why it still doesn't push when I get new messages. They still only show up when I do a manual refresh.

When i think about it, I have it on Sync All. I don't understand what Sync Last 4 Days does... I want everything synced now, today.
