Help Gmail Label Synchronization

What does this option do exactly? I found a thread asking this question but it was never answered.

-Number of days to sync?

I have no clue what this option even does.
 
you can choose which labels you want to sync to your phone, i.e. you can choose whether or not you want the sent label to automatically sync to your phone, or starred or whatever. as far as number of days, it will sync all new or changed info for that particular label within the most recent 4 days
