Gmail - mail not being received

Hi tomohawk,

I'm surprised that the Galaxy S4 is unable to do what my HTC One will do ie. pick up pop mail from a gmail account using stock mail app.

Have you compared your settings with those in my earlier post?

I do and they work. I've got them in Windows, Android and Linux. They work.
I use Aquamail. Aquamail works better with GMX.

Hi tommo47,

Thanks for your support.

I decided to start again from scratch, so I deleted the accounts on my phone and recreated the accounts with your earlier settings. I have been able to set up the accounts OK now.

However, I'm back to my original issue. I sent an e-mail from an old Yahoo mail address to the two new Gmail accounts that I have set up (not only on my phone, but also in Outlook)

The message has arrived in the two inboxes in Outlook but NOT on my phone.

I don't know if this was discussed earlier, but is there like a "Sync now" or "Sync up to 30 days" button like there is within the Gmail application.

I know my phone didn't receive any emails until I checked this box.

Sorry my experience with Outlook on Android is limited.

Hi tomohawk,

Have you definitely got 'Pop enabled' set in your gmail accounts :-

As far as syncing is concerned, I don't know about the S4 but I have a number of options in Sync, Send and receive from every 5 minutes up to every 4 hours, manual or on opening the mail account.

Hi tommo47

Yes, I have POP enabled but IMAP disabled (I notice you have both enabled, which I thought was not possible)

I have all the sync switches ON with a period of 5 minutes

Well, assuming you have them set to leave a copy on the server I am stumped on this one. I've even set up one of my gmail accounts as pop on my Desire S stock mail app and it works fine.

Reading back through the thread I'm wondering why you don't simply use the gmail app on your S4.

I've had both pop and imap enabled for some years but tend to set everything up as imap now for the reasons expressed by Crashdamage and John Bean.
