Gmail notifications don't go away after being read on PC.

Recently converted to android. Replaced my iPhone x with a galaxy s9+. For the most part I'm very happy.

One thing that bothers me is that my Gmail account notifies me of an email. If I check it on my mac the notification won't clear from my android.

Is that normal?

My iPhone would clear when read in my mac.

Using Samsung email app.

Have you noticed if you wait maybe a half hour or so, does your phone eventually 'catch up' and reflect the current state of your Gmail account? I don't use the default Samsung email app so I'm not aware if its settings menu has the option, but this sounds like you need to adjust the refresh/update time so it's checking on the status of your online Gmail account more frequently.

I set it to auto fetch. Which seems to be instant when receiving emails. I didn't set it to fetch at 15 minutes or whatever.

I would use the Gmail app but it doesn't let me keep emails in my inbox from years ago. I think it makes out at a certain number of days.

Just taking a wild guess but 'autofetch' might not be updating frequently enough to suit your needs. Is there an option in the settings menu to set the update time manually? If not, I'd suggest installing a third-party email app from the Play Store, they typically have a lot more options and functionality than the default email app. You mentioned an issue with the Gmail app but again, its settings menu might make it more suitable for to you. I like K-9 Mail but Aqua Mail is an often touted app here in the forums. Blue Mail is another very popular email client that has a lot of good press. K-9 as an example has some extensive options to save specified numbers of old messages, or everything.
