Gmail problem - can't read mail through app

Had my phone two days and I've already managed to screw it up

Gmail through the browser works fine.

Notifications of new mail work fine; I can pull down the notifications bar up top, click on the mail note, and read/mark everything fine from there. But I'm screwed once I exit that. See, I can't just access gmail directly through the app. If I click on it, I get a black screen saying "your mail will appear shortly" and a note in the bar up top saying "waiting for sync".

Anyone have an idea of what I did to the thing?

EDIT: fixed. See post 5. Just cleared Gmail data.

have you tried to go to homescreen tap menu>settings>datasync>google>and make sure all is checked

Yes, everything is checked. I've tried unchecking/rechecking them, tried using wifi and 3g for connections, and it shows the little synching icon at the top... but nothing ever loads.

Ok have you made sure that your gmail account info is correct open your gmail then menu>more>settings>account setting to do this

It's fixed now... went through Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage settings -> Gmail -> Clear Data
