Gmail Push on Kindle Fire First Gen

Does anyone know if it's possible to set push notifications to the Gmail App on a rooted Kindle Fire first gen instead of the Kindle stock Email app? The push works fine with the stock email, but I'd like to disable it and exclusively use the Gmail App in my Go Launcher if at all possible.

Thanks!
