Gmail signin error notification

Gentlefolk;

I have been getting a series of notifications that I have a sign-in error for my Gmail account.

When I tap on the notification, I am prompted for my Gmail password, though the login name is correct.

But when I access my gmail account directly, the email works correctly with no error.

So, this has phish written all over it, but that means my phone has been majorly hacked, but I dont know how.

Comments, suggestions, thoughts?

Thx!

I got this as well, I even changed my app-specific password for my Android phone (I have the 2-factor authentication turned on), it worked but by the time I got to work I had the same notification. I cleared it (using the "Clear" button in the notification drop-down) and it seems to be back to normal now.

Edit: To make it even more interesting, my phone was like this, my tablet was not.

So for the past couple of days I've been getting this aswell. It occurred the same time as an app I had started push notification adds, but I think that was coincidental.

I've used Ad Detector, it found nothing suspicious. Lookout, avast and avg all reported clean. And I've removed all files from my SD card that looked suspicious.

It seems this is happening to a few people over the last few days. I'm just clearing the notification at the moment, as like OP said this has phishing written all over it.

Could it just be a google problem?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Cheers
