GMail sync 100% broken on Evo

Got an Evo running stock OS, Android 2.3.3. GMail accounts (I have 3) stopped syncing in late June. Reboots didn't solve it. Went into settings > applications and deleted the app data, that didn't solve it even after a reboot. Sending emails from the GMail app was delayed, and it doesn't receive emails or notify that any have come in.

I don't use task killers but the phone is constantly low on memory and the built-in storage is down to about 30MB free.

Power widget installed, sync turned on, verified it's also turned on for the google accounts in Settings > accounts and sync. Actually it looks like nothing has synced since around June 26th.

This is mission critical functionality. Aside from my desire to rant about the fact that it's broken at all, I really need it working. Any suggestions that don't include "root your phone and..."?
