Gmail Sync

Using LLama, my phone connects to my wifi when at home and disconnects when away. When Im away, I dont seem to get any new emails or notifications but as soon as I get home and connect to my wifi, all the days emails arrive. I have a internet data plan which should be active when not connected to wifi. Any ideas why no emails are arriving when not connected to wifi?
Also, how often does gmail sync. Is it push or pull? Can I configure it to push from gmail to the phone for every new email?
Thanks

You are probably not connected with your data plan. Go to wireless & Network and make sure the Data connection is ticked and configured properly
