1) how to turn it on??

this is the problem phone

Phone Model: SPH-D710 (samsung epic)
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: S710.10 S.GB27

Check to see if the apk needs to updated . u ask which apk the gmail and Google play services
If not you will need to go to settings and scroll down to the g account settings and sync open and check the gmail or if the red flag shows just keep checking and uncheck til it sync

Sometimes when you flash a ROM it may not have the gmail app updated or the play services has done a major update and it hasn't done it so it just Dont sync
