Gmail Update Taking up Phone Storage

I just recently installed the Gmail and Talkback application updates on my LG Optimus S, and now between the two they are taking up 8mb on my phone's internal storage with no option to move to SD or whatever. Talkback was preinstalled on my phone, and neither one of them has showed up in phone storage in my Apps 2 SD app until now after these updates. Is this how it is working for everyone? Internal storage on this phone is small and I would hate to never install another Gmail update again or risk running out of storage.

Any insight into this would be much appreciated.

If they were installed on your phone from the beginning, they were using internal phone storage. I'm not sure why you didn't see that in Apps2SD previously, but they were certainly there using internal storage from the start.

Have you tried clearing the Gmail cache?

Not strictly true - before the updates it would have been stored in the system partition, but the updates can't be installed there so they'd have been installed on the user partition of the internal memory. There's not much you can do other than uninstall the updates or force installing to SD card if you can do so on your phone.

Also, if you're phone is rooted, you can use Titanium Backup to integrate the updates into the ROM, essentially regaining the space that the updates take up.

Thanks everybody. Gmail cache is small enough. What Chilly McFreeze says makes sense, but them doing it that way is really quite annoying. I just uninstalled the updates for now. I really need to root or buy a better phone with more internal storage. The fight for internal storage is exasperating.
