GNex ST or HTV4G VM

Currently have HTC Evo V 4G and unlocked GNex. I have been with VM for a while and their coverage is subpar. I've been debating switching to Straight talk but I don't know much about their coverage - I know it's either T-mobile or AT&T depending on which you want. I haven't rooted/modded my HTC Evo - should I? I'm relatively pleased with the HTC Evo V 4G. Also, what does S-off do?

T-Mobile coverage is as flakey as Sprint, just different paces, as your neighbors and co-workers how their data coverage is. Personally, you can't get T-mobile inside my house, but a neighborhood 5 miles away, T-mobile is the only data service available.

Tethering and data amounts are also a concern. Straight Talk isn't very straight when it comes to limits. LOT's of people have been burned by their policy. From what I have read, data and tethering on the AT&T side is more strict, however both are not so great.

The general consensus is you can use 100megs per day safely, and a MAX of 1gig per month and if you tether on AT&T side, you may not be there long. They do often send a text message to warn you when you get close to whatever limit they have imposed at the moment, but often it arrives after you break that limit, which gets you suspended. They do not just cut off data, they tend to cut off EVERYTHING. Do it more than twice and there is a good chance you will lose your number and service.

It's called Straight Talk, not Straight Data for a reason.

S-of let's you install kernels and radios. I highly recommend rooting, s-off and doing the "fix everything" sticky. It corrects the messaging issues.

^+1 Straight Talk is a joke for most people that do more than make calls, sort of makes having a smart phone with them pointless.

i looked into ST before i would not risk losing my number because a app sucked alot of my data, plus im not a big fan of GSM networks (bad memories :D)

You have a unlocked galaxy Nexus so you want to get a unlocked straight talk sim card they sell 3 different types. 1 for unlocked phones, 1 for T-Mobile phones and phones 1 for AT&T phones. If T-Mobile is not working out in the area you are in then with in like 30 seconds you can switch over to at&t. what's wrong with trying it out for a month. I'm gonna try it out next month starting on the 10th and I can not.

Is that the T-mobile $30 prepaid at walmart? I kinda wonder because some of my friends they said they paid for $30 but not the unlimited text+web+100 mins. (Actually, is that a better deal?)
