Go Contacts Ex: No "Complete action using.." Dialog?

Have not been able to find a Go Contacts forum, so here goes...

Samsung Galaxy Note, Bria VOIP dialer and Skype installed.

On the native Contacts app, when I select a number tb dialed, I get the expected "Complete action using" dialog with "Bria", "Phone", and "Skype" on it.

But no such luck with Go Contacts EX: It jumps right to the Note's built-in phone.

I tried the Settings > Applications > [Go Contacts Ex] > Launch By Default > Clear defaults thing, but the "Clear Defaults" button was disabled.

Then I thought maybe that property needs tb cleared in the "Phone" app, but was unable to find any app named "Phone".

Go Contacts EX seems like a pretty classy app, so I'm reluctant to assume such a big bug in it - more like user RCI on my end.

Anybody been here?

Assuming you are using the stock launcher on Note, that's because Go Contacts EX is not a "calling" app like Skype or whatever. Its just a front end for your stock dialer app so it would look different and have easier access to favorites or contacts list (I prefer TouchPal over Go). You have to remove your phone and contacts app from the dock and put Go Contacts Dialer and Go Contacts EX on it if you want to use them as your primary apps for a dialpad or contact search menu

You lost me on that one.

I see Go Contacts EX as analogous to the native "Contacts" app. It just has a better presentation and supports Groups.

Seems like both "Contacts" and "Go Contacts EX" are just front ends hooked into the same back end: whatever SQL view or flat file that holds the "Contacts" data.

So if the Contacts app throws up that "Complete action with..." dialog, it seems like Go Contacts EX should do so too.

Have I got it right so far?

Nova launcher.

LOL. I misunderstood your first post.

Anyway, it has to do with Go Contacts not being able to detect the presence of Skype or other calling apps on the phone. It's not exactly a front end for the contacts app itself. Its a front end for the contacts data, a different contact app and doesn't interface with the default contacts app.

Try touchpal. Haven't tries it with other calling apps like Skype, but TouchPal interacts better with the stock contacts/phone app. Clicking edit on it takes you to the stock contact edit interface, and the missed call view goes to the stock phone app log. Maybe it can do what you are looking for.

LOL.

I finally doped it out. I was approaching it incorrectly: assuming the "Phone" app was the device's phone, I had icons for "Contacts", "Go Contacts EX", "Bria", and "Skype" on the desktop.

From there, I was tapping "Go Contacts EX" and then tapping a number to dial it.

Instead, for calling purposes, one needs only a "Phone" icon on the desktop.

When one wants to make a call, one taps "Phone", and then taps the "Contacts" icon at the top of Phone's window.

By some magic, the resulting presentation (by who, I don't know) shows the contacts properly (sorted by last name, deals with groups, and so-forth) AND when one taps a number tb dialed, it pops the "Complete action using..." dialog.

It would be better if the more compact/functional Go Contacts EX UI were available instead... but it's good enough.

Go figure....
