Help "go google" gone

Okay, I received my phone in two days, and already screwed it up. I can no longer just say "Go Google." The words have disappeared. I am coming from an old Gingerbread phone, so go easy on me! <G>

My words are no longer there but it still works. It disappeared after a couple days with the phone...maybe it's supposed to do that?

Make sure you still have it set up for hot-word detection:
Go to the Google Now screen (furthest left) and scroll down to bottom. Tap the menu (3 dots) --> settings --> voice. Make sure how-word detection is still checked.

If the mic symbol in the search bar on the homescreen is outlined it means that it isnt listening, the mic is disabled.

Usually this happens when you launch an app with audio, so that the mic doesnt pick up the music or sounds. Sometimes when an app is still running in the background the mic will remain disabled and the symbol will be outlined.

Open your recent apps with the button next to the home button and swipe away any apps that produce sound, eg. Play Music, or any games etc. and the mic should go solid white and return to active.

I think this is a bug.

I thought the hot word was "ok google".

There are actually many hotwords. I don't like saying OK Google so I say "Hey Google" and it works. There is also, "Ok Computer" "Ok Glass" and a couple more that I don't remember off the top of my head.

I do not think it is a bug, because if you are playing audio and the mic is outlined in white, you can still click the mic and the audio will stop so Google can hear you. I think it's a safety feature to prevent accidental hotword detection.

The phrase in the search bar has been rumored to be a short tutorial. It's natural for it to go away after a day. Mine did.

I meant its a bug that it doesnt always reset the mic when you come out of the game or other app. I can understand it for music players as you may be using them in the background, but you dont need game audio in the background.

When I first began using Google Now, I tried a variety of keywords to launch it, just for fun. Both my Nexus 5 and Note 3 will respond to anything now that it's learned my voice. I noticed after using it frequently, it gets faster at waking up, responding, and delivering even more relevant information.

Conversely on my part I'm learning more & more that I can use it for and find it truly useful. Frankly I thought it was a bit of a gimmick in the beginning, but now it's a regular productive part of my workflow.

I'm curious - what do people use this feature for? I'm not sure how often or in what locations I'd like to be seen talking to my phone. Definitely interested to learn how people use it on a daily basis.
