Go Launcher - Hottest home launcher

Not too odd. I started out with LP+ on my Droid X and just made the switch to Go Launcher EX. Just liked the feel of GL a little better.

It was the reverse for me. Everything I had read talked about the smoothness of Go Launcher. I wasn't expecting the poor scrolling quality in the Apps Drawer. That was the deal breaker for me.

Having no way to turn off that bottom bar with the home key was not a pleasant experience either. Realizing that both issues were addressed with LauncherPro, with no negatives that I could see was what pushed me to switch to LauncherPro right at that moment.

The thing that put me off LauncherPro was the number of screens. The last time I checked, there were only three screens, and as I'm a person who likes their central screen to be as free of clutter as possible, it meant the other two screens were crammed with stuff.

Anyway, GoLauncher is absolutely lovely, no complaints with it whatsoever (Desire HD). The new Contacts widget they've introduced is going to be awesome too.

Weird, I run LauncherPro with 5 screens and could go as many as nine if I was desperate

I'm running Launcher Pro at the moment. I was on GoLauncher on my Samsung Galaxy S (2.2), and I recently re-tried it, but it still seemed to slow the phone down rather noticeably, so I switched back to Launcher Pro.

I must say, GoLauncher is so much more customisable than Launcher Pro, so I'd love it if the developer could fix this lag issue.

Why the change and what have you found you like better about golaunch compared with LP?

I much prefer the app drawer layout of GO Launcher to... anything else, for starters.

And the only thing that was really stopping me from make the change was the lack of swipe actions on GO, but not only did I realise it did have them, but I didn't really use them anyway.

manderle, like I said, it's been a while and I didn't use LauncherPro for all that long, I'm just throwing my two penn'oth in there. No axe to grind one way or the other.

mjmonsada, I suggest going to the homepage for the app, there'll be screenshots there. Also, Youtube will no doubt have some people showing off their new launcher, and there's screenshots on the market too.

I seriously doubt if any of them are "better" than any others, at least when the bugs are ironed out. I just like the look of GoLauncher and what it can do; no doubt other people prefer ADW, or LauncherPro, or one of the Windows 7-looking ones. It's all good.

Folks - I just tried out this GO Launcher EX.

But when I long press on the home screen to look for 2 things:
1 - Wifi toggle
2 - Data toggle

neither can be found. I use these two all the time when I get home etc so I can flick between the wifi and data from my home screen.

Anyway to do this via GO launcher ex?

I also use Go Launcher EX. The power control widget should be available to you in the regular "Widgets" menu; as opposed to the "Go Launcher Widgets". It allows you to toggle wifi, blue tooth, data, sync and screen brightness.

I would really like this launcher, except that as far as I can tell there's no way to add an app directly to an existing folder. Which means that if one of my home screens is full, but contains a folder that I want to put an app in I can't easily do that.

Less of an issue but I also don't like that I can't scroll between home screens while a folder is open.

My stock launcher (Touchwiz) can do both these things, so until/unless this is changed i'm going to stick with that. But it's a shame as I really like some aspects of Go Launcher.

I already checked that but it doesn't have data does it?

I just want those two!

I've just changed to Go Launcher from Launcher Pro. The only downside for me is the inability to theme or skin the widgets. I've got a mostly black theme going on, so the bright blue and white Facebook, People and Calender widgets look a bit out of place. Functionality wise they're at least on a par with the LP equivalents, but it would be nice to be able to change the color of them.

hi,
yes im just trying out go ex with a black gloss theme and noticed the same - would be cool if it could put a theme like frame around the icon maybe
cheers

The latest update has introduced skinning of widgets, so I think I'll be staying with Go Launcher for the foreseeable.

I've been using GO for 4-5 months. Only problem I've ever had is shortcut icons changing to a default android icon after a GO update. That doesn't seem to be happening anymore (but I still do a GO backup when I change anything, so it can be restored if something is lost). I find the app drawer very smooth and fast, lots of cool transitions while swiping. I love the app killing drawer (I lock most system apps, but kill anything that "just opens" that I don't use). It's had the ability to change icons for quite a while. I just download icons to my picture library (Quickpic), and just replace GO icons with custom pictures (like dock ones below). Text shortcuts are using Minimalistic Text. Ability to hide notification bar is also nice.

Would love it if they allowed you to overlap widgets which from what i can understand is only available in adw launcher. Otherwise though this is easily the best launcher out there, free, constantly updated and so customisable. Doesn't slow my phone down or lag anywhere. Love it!

What do you mean overlap widgets? If you set the grid tight (like 9 x 9) widgets will land on any co-ordinate, so I can get them to overlap. Not really sure what purpose that would have.

The only reason im looking for that feature is because i would like an analog clock on my home screen with a transparent black background behind it. I can get the background thing with minimalistic text but nothing goes over it. Not a big deal since i have changed my homescreen now but i reckon it would be a good add on for things like this.
