GO SMS - adding contacts

Am trying out GO SMS as an alternative to the stock Android messaging app but for the life of me can't work out how to add a new contact whilst in the new message screen. Am I missing something obvious? I am using the latest v4.40 version on an HTC Desire. Otherwise the app is great.

Welcome to AF. :)

I have the same app, and I'm not seeing an option here to add a contact. I think you might have to add the contact via stock app to do this. I'll keep looking and see what I find.

I have Go SMS Pro and I see options to add new contacts  so what are you guys missing exactly?

Don't you see a + button in the contacts bar or just a tap in the contacts bar doesn't bring up an option to add new contacts?

By the way, what exactly do you mean by add new contacts? Add new contacts for the message or add new contacts in your contacts list / address book?

Thanks for the comment but I don't see a + button in the Contacts bar and pressing the bar doesn't bring up an option. All get is a bubble to type a recipents name into which then searches the existing contact list. Is it something to do with the latest version I am using? I am using List view rather than Bubble view, by the way.

Having to go to another app to add a recipient for an SMS is not sensible.

I am expecting that adding new contacts in GO SMS would at least part populate contact information in my HTC People address book. Handcent works that way, I think.

I use GO SMS and just add people to the HTC People App, I never use GO to add contacts.

To be fair, I sync my contacts with Outlook on my PC using MyPhoneExplorer but that just populates the database that the HTC People app uses and GO SMS, AFAIK.

Basically, just use the People app to add contacts if you can't find the button with GO.

Then GO SMS is not for me. I want to be able to SMS a number without having to add a contact via another app. I'm surprised such a basic feature has been omitted.

I think you add them thru the go contacts that came with your go sms app, cant check now phone is up stairs charging but im pretty sure that's how i do it.

EDIT:
Miss-understoodat what you wher trying to accomplish at first.

In the To:field just type the number w/are-code then compose message and send.Pretty basic and simple to me.And you are correct it is a a basic feature and its there;)

Thanks for that. I've tried it and it works. I have also loaded GO Contacts which is better than the stock app. What I think is now needed is a link from GO SMS to GO Contacts so that if you send an SMS to a new number you can then easily add the extra data to turn it into a full blown contact. That should be easy to fix.

Your Welcome, enjoy your day.And i believe when said contact responds to your text you can long press message and a option box will pop up and you can then auto add that person as a contact if you so desire instead of going ahead and opening your go ccontacts folder.

Anyone having issues updating your contact pics? Seems when folks change their profile pic via FB or what not, the pics in my GoSMS contacts are not updating....

cant help ya there i just take a photo of a contact or grab something from my gallery that fits them(a photo of a donkey for my father n law) weather it be busnees or person and add it that way never found a need for that whole social media adventure(Facebook,MySpace,Twitter)but i would assume there has to be a update/sync feature some where within the Facebook app or in the gocontacts try unchecking the facebook option in settings then restart phone then recheck it just a thought.

Just tried with Go SMS to add an 'unknown' number that sent me a text. If you have the text open there is a '?' at the top left. Touch that and you get a pop-up with the choices call, add or blacklist. 'Add' lets you add 'new' or to 'existing' contact.

I assume that if you sent a text to that 'number with no contact' attached, you could open the sent text and add it as above.
