GoCalendar syncing

Hello

First time with an Android (or even a smart phone), and so pleased with everything it gives me, however having this syncing problem

Apologies if asking something basic - I have searched around for answer but found nothing pertinent

I've started using GoLauncher, which is working great, apart from occasional crashes

And I'm really pleased to find the calendar widget is great. However, I'm trying to get it to put things onto a Google calendar for me, but can't seem to find any option for it in the app
I have tried setting the account in the stock android calendar, but that hasn't helped

I'd also like to be able to sync with my work Outlook calendar, but less bothered about this

Appreciate whatever help you can offer :)

You did not mention what phone you have, but in my experience, if the stock calendar is set to use the Google calendar, you're set to go.

When I click on the add event part of Go Calendar, it actually brings up the event entry interface of the TouchWiz calendar which is set to use Google (default Samsung). Basically Go Calendar just pulls the data from your stock calendar and displays it on the widget.

As for syncing with Outlook, sync your Google calendar on the internet to Outlook, not direct from your phone since it already syncs to the online Google calendar on your account. Just instal Google Calendar Sync program for your PC, enter your Google account, and it will sync your Google Calendar automatically to your Outlook main calendar.

Sorry - Galaxy S2

Installed the Outlook sync programme, and just waiting for it to finish syncing now (looks like syncing historical stuff as well - bit pointless, but never mind)

Yes I'd notice the GoCalendar is just a 'front', and have gone into the stock calendar and hit sync with my google account, but then when check my google calendar (and hit refresh) - nothing

OK, the Outlook sync has worked perfectly, with enough clicks got everything all the way through to my GoCalendar

But still nothing going the other way, to my Google Calendar - really weird.
I wonder if there is a 1/2-way option somewhere, as with the Outlook/Google syncing, but haven't seen one

Have now tried two things, which have been a success:

- added a new event, which does show on my google calendar
- turned auto-sync on

bit crap that doesn't sync events already present in my phone's calendar to google
and not sure it was necessary to solve this, but having the auto-sync has added some stuff to contacts that didn't want - had only synced calendar before now

If you dont want to sync contacts, just go to Menu>settings>accounts and sync>your google account>uncheck contacts sync.

As for the 2way option, its not actually an immediate sync. For example, adding an event to Go Calendar, it would of course be automatically updated to your stock calendar. But the stock calendar would update to Google servers maybe every hour or so.

Personally though, even if I use Go Launcher, I opted to use Android Agenda as my Calendar widget for the mere feature that apart from my calendar, it also is able to display my tasks from the Astrid app. One caveat is that it does not have a calendar view, only an agenda view.

After much searching and experimenting, I settled on GTasks for my todo list (as was simplest while still offering quick straightforward reminder options I want)

Does Android Agenda offer much difference in display for todos?

Not sure whether worth changing to this from current situation?

cheers

Android Agenda is basically the same thing as the Agenda view on Go Calendar and has more customizeable themes, except that it is able to display tasks along with calendar events. GTasks I think is one of its supported task apps.

Here's a screen shot of my Android Agenda widget in 3x3 size onscreen. Its scrollable too.

Managed to install and configure this Agenda widget, and think I prob do just about prefer it - have a full page list, plus a small one on my main homescreen

But how did you get that theme/appearance? Would be nice to have something a bit more friendly looking for the 2 by 2 on my main screen

Also, being nosey, I notice you are migrating from evernote... what to??
Have really got into using Evernote, but if there is something with more functionality for free...

Cheers

Its the Nothing but Nebula theme, I think, with a little customization (in line row style). Been using that theme for ages. Anyway, its in menu>settings>appearance. Dont mind the big date thing. My Agenda widget is just a 3x2 widget. The big date is from minimalistic text.

I'm migrating my Evernote stuff to Springpad. Fully free. The desktop app is a Chrome app though. I also still keep OneNote, so my stuff is basically spread between two programs depending on what the data is.

ok guess most of that appearance comes from your system theme...?

have found the global appearance setting for the agenda widget, so can now make my 'mini list' on my first home screen better tailored, while keeping my big list more practical. have had a bit of a play with settings, but don't find them so intuitive, and then its hassle trying to get it back how it was

have had a play with springpad - seems ok, although don't find it quite so straightforward to get going on as evernote, plus uploading a couple of photos took ages and was a bit hit and miss
other than the upload limit, can only see the ability to collaborate/edit being a big advantage, and even then not sure the missus will get into using it from her blackberry

The only things I keep on springpad are notes on things I want to remember which I come across the web, my movie library and a few files. I transferred just because its free. While I do find it more to my liking compared to Evernote, I must admit that it does not hold true for everyone.

As for the appearance of my calendar, the only thing that comes from the system theme is the font. In checking my settings, this is how I did it:

3x3 widget,
select nothing but nebula theme in settings>appearance>themes,
in settings>appearance>row style>select date row
in settings>appearance>row>date row transparency>i drag the opacity bar all the way to transparent (0).

As for getting back to original settings, its the classic theme.

yes indeed - some aspects of it are pretty good; imagine the public aspects of it can be very useful (can't myself having enough friends using it to be worthwhile though), although the twitter like 'following' seems a bit much

surprised how slow it can be though, but I guess its much better for them to keep it all web-based

guess it is just finding a place for it - as you say it is potentially better for saving bookmarks/pages (although using the clipper add-on in Dolphin and then share option means Evernote is just as handy, as far as I can tell)

tried playing with those settings, and weirdly doesn't seem to actually change (have full transparency on my 2 by 2, and same setting on my full page list doesn't give same appearance)
think I will try to get some more interesting system fonts

Actually, what made me transfer was the bookmarking via Chrome. I also like the interface better than Evernote. Although I admit that there are times its slow.
