Root Going from Apex 1.3.1 to 1.4.0. Need some advice/help

Ok, bought a guys used Droid X last week, it's currently rocking Apex 1.3.1 and i'm loving it. But, i really want to upgrade to 1.4.0.

Can someone sum up what i need to download to make the upgrade? I understand i put the ROM on the SD card and reboot to reinstall? Also should i download Titanium to backup my apps? Anything else?

One other question, this version of apex i'm running still has the motoblur skin on it while 1.4 looks like stock android...stock is what i'm looking to have. Is their an option of which style of Android you want when first installing?

Thanks,
Nate

Install Titanium, then backup (schedule) all apps + data and run it now.

Create a backup in recovery (DroidX bootstrap-- vol up/dn keys to navigate, camera button to do the highlighted item, back key to go back.) Go back to "reboot phone" when done. OR "backup current rom" if Rom Manager is installed (my preference -- call it Apex_1.3.1_02-19-2011 -- don't use spaces.

Copy Apex 1.4 zip to your phone and install via Rom Manager (don't check any check boxes for wipe or reset) or install via recovery (install zip from sd card, browse for zip).

An alternate launcher will get rid of the blur skin. Launcher Pro, Go Launcher, etc. I prefer Launcher Pro Plus. Make sure you delete apps on your screens when going with a launcher so they aren't running in the background. You also should uninstall any apps you never use since many of those also run in the background. Home Switcher will let you go back to stock blur launcher if you don't like the installed one.

Once you get new rom installed, if you like it, create another backup in recovery.
