Going from phone call to anything?

I recently upgraded to an S3 from a Fascinate. I am enjoying the phone. Got an incoming call today and needed to access my calendar during the call, but had no idea how to do so.

On my old phone I could press the "back" button and get out of my current app and into whatever I needed. I hate to be a dolt here, but I hope I am missing something relatively simple.

While in the call tap the Home button and it will take you to the Home screen so you can get to the calendar or any other app.
