Going to T-MO

I'm thinking of making the switch too. I'd maybe go with the G2x or the GSII. I want something with at least a 4" screen and equal or better specs than the MT. What other phones did you consider moving on to?

Well for me it was just what I could get for cheapest for new or in like new condition from craigslist or ebay. If I wanted to go all out and get one for whatever price I probably would get the GS2 (which is just pure power using both cores), or the HTC Amaze. But the G2x looks good and I was gonna get one, but the guy just stopped contact me. But it just depends on what you want. The GS2 is basically just raw, unhindered power using both cores at once which could be good or bad depending on what you are doing. The Mytouch 4g slide has 2 cores, but they are a bit more organized with one processor being used by the app in focus then everything else that runs in the background on the second core. The G2x has tegra 2 chipset so it just has good graphics and gaming performance. The amaze is like the GS2 I believe just a bit weaker. So it really just depends on what your willing to spend and what you want. Like me I wanted something around 2-300 hundred that was 4g capable and has dual cores. If you want HDMI out though you I think the Mytouch is the only one of their 5 dualcore 4g android phones that doesn't have it.

Edit: also I guess it depends on what overlay you want... G2x is like stock gingerbread, htc amaze, htc sensation, and htc mytouch all have sense 3.0 (well the mytouch has the espresso build), and the GS2 has Touchwiz 4.0. So that also can factor in. Personally I don't really care and I can always root and install a custom rom that is sense free.

So I got the mytouch 4g slide today! So far it seems pretty nice, I'm still gonna stay more active here at least until I feel like rooting and getting sutom recovery and roms on my mytouch (lol "my mytouch"). I want to explore sense, even if it is the espresso build... Now all I have to do is go to T-Mo and buy a prepaid sim activation kit. And then 4G! :D. In case anyone is thinking of switching and want to know more about the Mytouch that reviews don't show... It can detect 4 points of input flawlessy no snapping. Built in flashlight with 3 brightness settings and is fairly bright. Screen is a hell of lot brighter and more vibrant than the MTs. Has a notification light! Superior camera (better be since HTC and T-Mo is advertising it as the "best" camera in the smartphone industry). I'll let you know more as I have explored it more.

Edit: also has a way better vibrate motor so haptic feedback on the screen is awesome! And more app support!

Edit2: Also I never noticed how much of a blue tint the MT actually has! Wow! Its kind of different using a phone without it...

You can get the Sim card for $2 on t Mobile website

I know which I may have to do considering I bought on at the T-mo store and supposedly it was activated, but I can't do anything and customer service isn't really helping... And that's why I like CDMA less hassle... I might just go get a cheap prepaid t-mo phone that has a prepaid kit just to be able to use it. Ugh.

I Just got out of t-mobile and came to the triumph.

I signed a 2 year contract and hated it.

Also I think T-mobile has that thing in effect where once they see that your using an android or internet based device they shut your plan off.
I cant remember where I was reading it but when you put the sim card in your phone they can tell exactly which phone you have and cancel your account do to it being against there terms of service.

And if you call T-mobile support they will not help you once they now you are trying to be cheap. T-mobile is still dealing with those people with the 5 dollar unlimited data plans from 4 years ago.

I hope you have better luck.

If I was to switch I would sell my Triumph and sign a 2 year contract. (unless you have bad credit) then just live with that phone for 2 years. Or buy the phone and sell it for 600 dollars and buy a little older android device and rock on with my 2 year contract.

Well I'm just doing there prepaid plan which allows me to use whatever phone I want. Plus I don't want to sign on to a 2 year contract...

even their prepaid stuff was pretty bad back in the day.

I had a Sidekick since like 05 till 2010. (best phones until android was widespread, hands down, the LX 09 was amazing) and tmobiles prepaid plans were awful. but i paid them to get that phone.

a dollar a day, unlimited texting and data, and 12 cents a minute. I avoided phone calls at all costs and usually came in at 30 bucks a month. but if I decided to call someone it went way up. got as high as 70 just making the same amount of calls i do on the triumph today

while i had my OV, i seriously thought the android sidekick 4G would be the thing to get me back on a contract, but it ended up being bad. so sad too

I'm just glad that all those years I got laughed at by blackberry weilding friends was worth it, the Danger team (makers of sidekick) are a huge force behind Android as we know it. and blackberry is.. what? whats a blackberry again?? oh thats right no one cares.

They sell prepaid T-mo android phones

How exactly does this work? Just buy a Tmo or unlocked phone, buy the prepaid sim, stick it in, and activate?

Buy a either a prepaid monthly 4g phone that comes with a prepaid sim activation kit, or buy a t-mobile phone or unlocked phone (although if its from AT&T you probably would only get 2g... so better stick with a T-mo phone), then buy a prepaid activation kit either online or in-store and make sure you actually get a prepaid activation kit. Go here: Activate Your Prepaid Phone | T-Mobile and click activate. You will need to input your activation code, sim serial, and your phone's imei. After all that you can choose your plan and such. Then you can pop the sim in. And if you want you can port your number over, and while its porting you can use both phones.

Alright cool. I'm actually starting to seriously consider the Galaxy Note. My parents are looking into getting an ATT family plan, but with the extra fine print fees and whatnot its looking to be a little more than they're willing to pay. I figure I can sell a couple things, including my Triumph, to pay for it. I'm reading there's some workarounds to activate it on GoPhone or Straight Talk, but until I figure out exactly what I'd need to do for that, I might consider going with Tmo for a little while. I know it would only be edge speeds, but that really can't be much worse than what in getting on VM, right? :p It may not happen, but it's a dream of mine :D

Just ordered my SIM cards, I will be getting the LG P999 (G2X) and my wife will be getting the LG Mytouch Q

So in my apartment I get around 5+ mbps on 4g! :D thats about 20-30x faster than VM's 3g in my apartment. Plus I get a lot stronger signal! :D. And by the way there 2g (edge) is around 50kbps just so people know.

Also if anyone cares here's showing how crappy the camera sensor is on the MT althoughI don't have a green tint :D, but still. Both pics are 5mp in the same lighting at close to the same area on a white wall. Take a guess which is the MT4GS (that has a backlight camera sensor) and which one is the MT (crappy sensor).

If anyone wants me to compare video (either 720p vs 720p or 720p vs 1080p or whatever else you would want.) let me know.

SWEET!!!! I will be ordering ours next week sometime. Can't wait.

Even more good news! :D even in my break room at work I get around 5mbps download! :D That's like 100ish times faster than my VM service in there!

I would be making the same switch except for the fact that tmobile throttles after 100mb of data used on their $50 prepaid plan.Goes from 4g--> 2g or in my area 3g----> 2g because I have no 4g towers in my area.

I can't justify switching over from VM if that's how it's going to be. I need at least 2 gb /month of 3g.
