Help Going to update phone which version of Openetna should I get?

Tyson_29

Lurker
Well I'm sick and tired of 1.5 and I plan on updating I already got most of my stuff backed up. So I noticed there was a lot of different versions and that 2.2 is the newest.

So I was wondering should I go with 2.2 or is it to buggy or unstable, would 2.1 be a better option now? which version should I go for?

Hi Tyson,

- I used boot V2.4.1 (I tried bootV2.4.4 and it didn't work for me so it was suggested that I try V2.4.1) and system v6.1-rc5
- I used OpenEtna WinFlasherV1.2.1 ( think it's up to v1.4 now)

Good luck! If you run into troubles the people there on OpenEtna are wonderful for support. I did a lot of reading first and went over everything many times. It wasn't without problems (I rushed a few steps and made mistakes). It's doable.

So there up to 2.4 now?

OpenEtna is at 2.2 (Froyo) at this point. They are waiting for the next kernal to come down the line so they can work on 2.3 (Gingerbread). Not sure what you mean by 2.4?

I just refreshed my phone with bootV2.4.4 and it worked just fine.

My issue right now is that I have no room on my phone. I guess I still have some old files left over that aren't getting deleted. Working on that - I have a few ideas but I guess it's not a common issue.

@amazonannie

Does everything work on your phone such as the camera etc..?
I thought froyo had issues that hampered some of the features from working.

Can you please verify that everything works if not what does not?
thx

Actually the camera works BETTER than the original stock firmware. I had almost given up - it kept freezing and locking up and I had to pull the battery to get control of the phone after taking a picture. Now.. it's perfect! I don't think it's the full 5 pixels but I'm not entirely sure.

I have no problems with my bluetooth or anything else that others have complained about. I have had occasional reboots when I come across a WiFi that I haven't logged into but at home it's rock solid.

I am reading about the "LG Official Froyo" that they have over at OpenEtna - I've downloaded the software and I think I'll try it out. :)

Okay, can you please keep us posted as to your updates.
I want to switch to 2.3+ but I prefer to switch once they have some of the bugs worked out for camera/gps/bluetooth.

Does anyone know how to get rid of myspace? My phone is rooted and is running 1.6. I can't find the myspace files to delete. I search for myspace or my or space hoping to find it somewhere but no luck.
I am using root manager program also.

Also, Annie does apps2SD work for you in 2.2+? That would be great if I can store/install and run apps from the sd card.

Thanks!

btw- do you mean this link for LG Froyo? http://openetna.com/openetna/2010/11/27/a-new-version-of/#comments

Hi droiduzr2,
I was bored and tried the new install.
Some Observations:
-Initially started with an Asian language but I quickly had an option to pick English.
- Had to disable the onscreen Keyboard so that the physical keyboard would be able to use the symbols.
- Had to put in the Rogers APN settings ...not a problem.
- I tried to use the SuperOneClick program to root the phone. It didn't work!
I checked using the "Hidden menu" (It is now a 5200 rather than a 620) and there isn't an option to enable rooting. This could be a deal breaker as there is lots of bloatware.

It's very, very slow at times. Not sure what it is that's causing it - can't remove all that stuff (who needs Hong Kong subway system maps in Canada?) :)

It's okay - the camera works just fine. GPS is quick. Tried apps2SD and that works just fine. Haven't tried Bluetooth yet.

The page I was talking about is :
LG Oficial Froyo release Instalation Guide

They got the "Official LG" upgrade and are working on that. It's strange 'cause sometimes it's quite fast and then it slows to a crawl. <shrug> I'll try it for a few days and see what I think. I used 'fastboot' so supposedly I will be able to go back to the OE one that you pointed out.

Annie,
Did you install this
OpenEtna Installation Guide | OpenEtna

Notice the 2 files on the right under downloads.

If you use super1click I had to pick the "cage something" to root my 1.6.

Hi droiduzr2,

Awesome! Thank you SO much ... the "rageagainstthecage" option did it! Now I can get rid of all that bloatware!

Yes I used that installation the first couple times I tried it. It worked fine for the most part. I had trouble the first time because the phone kept saying it was full. I re-did all the steps making sure I did fastboot -w which makes sure everything is wiped out. My only problems were with the wifi which would reboot the phone when it saw a strange wifi node that it couldn't connect to.

I am testing out the Official LG 2.2 rom as modded by OpenEtna. This is not exactly the same as the one you referenced (let's call that one "bootV2.4.4.img and systemV6.1-rc5.zip")

If you use the one straight from LG then you lose 'fastboot' which means you cannot go back to an older version. The OpenEtna one keeps fastboot. There is a great discussion here:
LG Eve Official 2.2 Discussion
I don't know if that helps at all to straighten out things? They're slightly different - the newer version has the new market (not anything to write home about so far) and lots of bloat ware as I mentioned.

It does seem faster today and I think the battery is better but I really haven't had a chance to test it out. I just tested the Bluetooth and it works (although the device is now a LG-KH5200)

No problems so far! :)

Ok just to muddy the waters abit... there is another version on Open Etna that they posted today. Not sure this will clarify things or not but....

Recently LG released their official 2.2 (froyo) firmware for the LG GW620. (around Jan. 20th in Korea only at this point)
/!\ Warning : Read this before upgrading to the official Froyo firmware from LG

Discussion of this version is here:
LG Eve Official 2.2 Discussion : LG Eve Official 2.2 Discussion (This is the one I am running and it seems stable)

OpenEtna 6.2-rc1 (Just came out today Feb 1/11 Yay ! Still really buggy at this point though )
- Basically the OpenEtna version of above.
- Using modified 2.6.32 kernel from lg's froyo release
- boot v3.0
- System.img V6.2-rc1
Follow the discussion in this forum : [Release] OpenEtna 6.2-rc1

(They also have nightly builds too but let's leave those out of the discussion for the sake of clarification. )

I'm in awe of the battery life! That was a huge issue for me in the past and I'll report my findings whenever I have to plug it in again.

I did try it yesterday, but i was having problems with the memory card,

For now im using the bootV2.4.4/System.img V6.1-rc5 pleased with it, the camera is stuck in 3mps mode, but the battery life is a lot better then before (92% left after about 4 hours) where with 1.5 i was lucky to get 12 hours before it started complaining at me, il have to see how openetna goes.
