Good and recommend laptops

Hi,
I currently have a HP G70 ( Intel core 2 duo, 2 GHz, 3GB ram, 140GB HD, 9th G NVIDIA graphics etc)

I find that it's a little bit slow. And not able to keep up with tasks such as gaming on Steam, or more importantly editing/playing back hd vudeo.

I am unaware of budget,or what os I prefer, but nothing too expensive ( or £1000)

Mabye even usb 3?

But mainly Internet tasks, word processing, movie editing and games.

So if anyone could share recommendations, that would be appreciated greatly.

LOL . . . this is how I selected my laptop and printer. I decided how much to spend and then I found both the laptop and printer in the smallest, easiest to carry boxes because I was on foot.

I did not look at specs, just box size.

I'm always on foot. I learn to carry what I want ;)
