I need a good backup and restore program. I've got an Acer A500 which is close to dead. It randomly crashes, out of nowhere, then when I reboot it, it goes past the Acer screen to the Android screen, then hangs... and hangs... and hangs. Today I did not think it was ever coming back, it was hung for at least 10-20 minutes. I set it down since it was hung and not responding. I later discovered that it was working again. (Oddly enough, this problem seems to be more likely to happen when the battery is at less than 10% or so. It's weird that just plugging it in doesn't immediately solve the problem for some odd reason.)
Anyway, I do have a Square Trade warranty. I assume that I will soon end up with a new tablet, probably not an Acer.
1. Will a backup and restore program to my SD card successfully dump my data and apps onto a new non-Acer Android tablet? Will doing this cause instabilities or other problems on the new tablet?
2. Or will I need to do something else to get apps, games, music, etc onto a new tablet? I did numerous backup and restores with my old Palm Pilot when I got a new Palm Pilot years ago, but I'm not familiar enough with Android tablets to know whether I can simply backup and then dump everything on a new tablet by another manufacturer. I can see where dumping everything might not work well or could cause problems.
I don't currently have any type of file explorer program either. I've been meaning to check into that lately, but haven't found the time to evaluate the many choices.
I am currently running Android OS 3.2.1, Honeycomb. I've looked at upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwich, but was put off by the many problems people have had with it.
So, how should I prepare myself for the probably imminent loss of this tablet to make the transition less time-intensive? I've had the tablet almost 2 years, so I've got a bunch of apps, music and more on it.
