Good contact list backup app?

I just got the Motorola Triumph and am looking for a way to really backup the contact list in case of a disaster so you can import it back with everything identical to what you had. I don't mind doing the initial setup for each, I don't switch phones that often, but I do mind losing information in each contact.

After clearing up a mess with syncing with Google (I ended up with double entries for every contact), I imported the contacts again from a recent backup (used export from the phones). However any special incoming ringtone was missing, option to send directly to voicemail was missing, some contacts were auto-merged (such as "Jenny" and "Jennifer") so I had to split them, and custom number and address info had been changed (the few instances it kept the info, it was changed to ll caps, but mostly just defaulted to "home" so every contact had to be checked and corrected).

Is there any app, even a paid app, that will import your list back identically as you originally had it including special ringtones on incoming calls and custom entries?

I'm not 100% sure I'm keeping the phone yet. I love the options on the phone, but the lack of bars at times, even when outdoors, worries me as to how often it's going to drop calls. I had an LG Rumor Touch, which was bad at times, but this phone seems even worse. I'm with Virgin but in a major city.

Thanks for any advice.

Use Titanium Backup from the Play Store. You can back up any app, contacts, text messages and much more.

Yes, I realized that after checking it out last night. I haven't yet rooted the phone, although I'm at least certain I'm keeping it at this point. I'm not sure I'll bother with rooting either since I've been fnding most apps that I would use work just fine without rooting (this was the first one).

So I'm still on the lookout for an exception contact backup method, that will include everything you had originally set up, including custom ringtones per individual.

I have used My Backup in the past and it works good. Dunno about the ringtone to contact aspect, haven't used it for a while as I use Titanium Backup, now that it backs up contacts and messages to xml. There are 3 versions free to try, root, and pro. I have used them all, but pro is the only one that will restore from one ROM to another, i.e. froyo to gb or ics.

One point to make is, root allows you to back up app and game data, which is a pretty big deal if you don't want to loose your progress in a game you've been playing for a while.

For rooting, I prefer this method, it requires CWM Recovery, which is just plugging you phone in to a computer and copying one file, but you should do that any way, even if not rooted. So you can backup your phone. This is very simple and only puts the files needed on your phone, wiithout having to install an app to do it. I never really liked GingerBreak, just my opinion.

Method 3: Flashing Superuser/SuperSU zip in CWM
Step 1: Download the flashable zip. (superuser or SuperSU)
Step 2: Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery (power and both volume buttons simultaneously).
Step 3: Install the flashable zip (install zip from sd card and select the file).
Step 4: Reboot your phone.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the info. If I do decide to root the MT (and yes, I'm leaning that way), I'll probably try your method.
