Good free app + data backup?

Basically I'm after a free backup apk that can back up any app and its data with it and allow me to place it on my pc for safe keeping,but i'm still on stock rom and unrooted. I guess (but not 100% sure) to back up app data I will need to be rooted to do this?
 
Rooting is simple and harmless, and allows the use of apps like Titanium Backup to do exactly what you want, simply and easily.

The free version will probably meet your needs but of course requires root access. I doubt you will find a better solution - or indeed any solution that doesn't require root.

I guessed that would be the case. I've rooted phones before so I know all about TB.:)

Interesting. I've used it from day one and other than the occasional issue with (very) old phones I've had no problems whatsoever, certainly not on modern hardware like the Nexus 4.

I don't disbelieve that you have real issues with TB but the overwhelming majority of users (including me) have a different experience judging by the feedback it receives.
 
Another one I used to use on my DHD was Rom Toolbox Pro which has app manager included and other good features.
