i got a $50 gift card that is linked to my market account. i have promised to use it only for my phone.

problem is i cant find any paid apps that i think ill like.

any ideas? market links please.

I see you are rooted.

I'd suggest Root Explorer.

You could also check through apps listed HERE, HERE or a few other of the sections.

PowerAMP for music is also the best IMO. and either SoundHound Infinity or Shazam Encore are worth it also.

What kind of apps do you want? Hard to point you to an app if you don't give us a direction. CoPilot Live is a good navigation app that stores maps on your phone so you can navigate without a data connection. There's my two cents.

apps i have.

beautiful widgets
titanium backup
poweramp
gameboid
easytether
pdanet
metamorph
setcpu

all paid versions.

idk what they are. mostly customization that doesnt require a launcher change from adw.

I've paid for and would recommend

vignette camera app that offers a ton of post processing options

fast burst camera

root explorer

titanium back up (free, but the pro key costs) is great if you flash a lot of roms, or if some dev ruins a great app with a pointless update coughmrnumbercough

tasker I cannot promote this app enough. it is by far the best money I've spent for my evo

set cpu power saving underclocking or overclocking for gaming if that's your thing. Although, the latest update for tasker has this ability now, too.

launcher pro (also free with a paid unlock key) home replacement

widget locker add a custom lockscreen image, place widgets on your locker, etc

subsonic (free for 30 days, then it locks until you 'donate' to the dev thru the website. no set price, whatever you're comfortable with, it suggests ~30 bucks or so)

tv show stream polls the internet for a ton of tv shows for streaming

sd card speed booster sets the read ahead on your sd card from 4 to whatever you like. triples your write speed, and automatically sets your preference on boot

Not to rain on anyone's parade but I would advise against this unless you really know what you're doing. Those speed increases seem like mostly snake oil due to bad measuring.

There is a reason the read and write aheads are set to 4KB, 128 and 512 commonly: because that's the size of blocks and pages in Flash memory.

You may see some improvement with loading large files where the improvement will be most noticeable, however you're likely to slow down loading and writing small files and possible shorten the lifespan of your SD card.

This is for SSD but it's similar enough to give a sense of what's going on: AnandTech SSD explaination

So this may improve sequential reads so for the gallery images, and video and audio, but it could potentially hurt lots of other performance like the browser and other apps which do lots of tiny file io operations constantly. And most of the work any OS is doing is small file IO.

I'm not 100% sure myself here either though -- but I'm really not convinced of this tweak, all those people in the XDA thread seemed like that had no idea what they were talking about. No one seemed to explain why this speeded up performance. It's also only be "around" about a month.

well, I'm certainly no expert on the matter and I can only speak to my own experience. for me, I mostly use my phone for streaming music and video via subsonic and vlc, and there has certainly been a marked improvement in the write speeds of the cached files. I can now get an entire album written to my sd card in under 5 minutes which is perfect when in transit and the signal comes and goes. so as you say it works well for large files. I haven't noticed any lag in my browser or anything in the operating system so far, but that's not to say it isn't there or won't be, just that I haven't noticed it, personally

the app does use the increments 4, 128, and 512 and then continues on up. 128 seems to work fine for me.

it's entirely possible that this will shorten the life of my sd card, but it's backed up on my computer and I'll trade the speed and convenience for the shorter life span when a new card can be had for ~30 bucks

Personally I would recommend the following, I've only paid for a couple apps:

-Tasker
-3G watchdog
-Root Explorer

My 3 most favourite apps :)

No love for Bloat Freezer..(well it is a a relativly new app) Freeze the apps I never use and the ones that come pre-installed on the phone that you never use and phone runs so much smoother and has no forced closed eroor messages., you guys should check it out. :)

Not to mention GREAT customer service!

Can anyone suggest to me a current multi-service messaging program similar to pidgin for an android device? I heard of IM+ or fring but would like to know which program android users recommend. Would it be better to download each service separate or use a multi-service messenger? Thank you.

I hope you're buying apps you're going to use and not buyin 'em for the point of buying them. Since you use ADW, have you upgraded to ADW EX?

NoteEverything $4 (pro) is a great note app that does EVERYTHING.
System Panel $3 (best app/process manager)
Widget Locker $2 (this is a must! You can put widgets on your lock screen, no need to unlock your phone)
Executive Assitance (pro) - $7 all your miss calls/sms/facebook/twitter/rrs feeds in one easy to view scrollable widget.

:D

Splashtop is very cool - remote access of your PC via WiFi or 3G/4G.

Other than that, Maildroid is about the best money I spent on the phone.
