Good source to read about how Android works?

Now that I have an Android device, I want to learn as much as I can about the OS. Can anyone recommend a good website or book that discusses how it works under the hood, and that maybe covers a few tips and tricks for things you can do while using it?

I'm not really looking for a how-to-program guide yet, just something readable that can give me a good overview of how the OS works.
