My smartphone history is quite limited. After having a Nokia N73 for 2 years, and waiting what seemed like forever for the N85 to come out, I was so happy to get my hands on it.
It is a great little phone, improvements over my last phone included wifi, GPS, 5MP camera and the lovely OLED screen. I couldn't help being slightly disappointed though, as it didn't have any sort of "wow" factor, it was just incremental improvements on what I already had.
I did glance at the G1 when it came out before the N85, but when I read up on it all the reviews said "shoddy hardware" and "battery life a joke", so I passed.
3 months later I've read more & more about the G1, and started having serious thoughts about wanting one.
A few days ago I finally coughed up the cash for a used one from eBay, reasoning that if I didn't like it then I could always sell it again and get most of my money back.
My G1 arrived yesterday, locked to TMobile (I was aware if this) and after visiting one of the many sites that offers unlock codes I ordered one mine, and then spent the best part of the day and last night checking my email every 5min, desperate to get my phone unlocked.
After a few minutes sussing out how to get the phone working with my Voda sim, I finally had my G1 working - at last!
This phone p*sses all over my Nokia from a great height. I don't care if there's no working satnav application yet, or that the camera is a bit 2005 (3MP), I've not put it down for 6hrs, and I've loved every minute of it!
I did not feel this way when I got my N85, so I know the G1 is staying and the Nokia has got to go! eBay here I come!
Glad to have joined the G1 owners club, seriously impressed with it!
Incidentally, I have read lots of G1 forums etc, still concerned about the battery life, and I charged my phone fully before then (deliberately) running it completely empty (wifi and GPS switched on, screen brightness on full, watching videos, etc). Am I correct in thinking that charging the battery full and running it completely dead a few times will condition my battery into best performance?
Also, any tips for a noob that I absolutely have to know?
Thanks!
