Help Google account deleted from server

I'm having a rather annoying problem, that there seems to be no fix for. A google account I was using to get emails from my school got deleted from the server because I graduated. Now I can't remove that account from my phone at all, and it is getting in the way of my apps being updated and all sorts of other problems. Is there an easier way to fix this than to do a factory reset?

If it's the default account on the phone, the account entered during initial setup of the phone, the surest thing to do is probably backup everything and reset so you can enter a different default account.

It's tough to change the default account. I've never tried but people seem to have a lot of trouble. I've seen fixes including rooting and modifying the hosts file to fooling around with 2-step authentication. None of the fixes seems to consistently succeed except a reset.

Then the problem must be from it having been deleted on the server. In that case a reset might still be the best option.
