Google + app question/suggestion/problem

Who knows, but since the product is in beta, make a suggestion for that feature.

Also, need a way to select default streams to view. For example, I want to see my friends and family stream when I open the app, not acquaintances and following.

I changed mine ok, you need to do it in Google which then populates G+

I noticed there is no "log out" feature on the app either. I had to disconnect it so that I wouldn't receive notices.

But you shouldn't need to do that. There should be an option to do this function within the app itself.

You can disable notifications within the app itself. Also, there is an option under Settings, Sync that I turned off in my phone apps. I don't get any notifications. When I open tje app, I get notifications within the app only.
