Root Google Apps for 2.2

Lurker
Just updated my rooted N1 to FRF91 (2.2) and am pleased with the improvements. Wanted to install Google apps (especially missing Andriod marketplace, the latest Google maps and maybe voice commands).

Tried flashing
gapps-mdpi-20100930-signed.zip
but keep getting force close on Gmail with that installed (even after clearing data and cache) till I got rid of it of that and went back to plain FRF91.

Any ideas where to get a set of Google Apps compatible with FRF91?

Also I thought of moving from 2.2 to 2.2.1 by flashing
signed-passion-FRG83-from-FRF9.zip
but it failed to install. What is the most up-to-date stable Android I can install over my rooted N1?

Thanks so much!

FRG83 seems to fail to install if the /system partition isn't stock (ie Amazon MP3 removed etc). Either try to revert back to unmolested FRF91 and install, or find a modified FRG83 update to install.

I just rooted yesterday so I'm new to all of this, however...

When I downloaded the file for Google Apps I had the choice between what you posted and "gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed". There was a note explaining that mdpi was lighter for phones not as strong as the Nexus. And that HDPI was the correct one..

It refers to the DPI of the screen. High, medium or low.

Nothing to do with the build quality of the phone lmao

I know, but I was hoping that if I threw that in there the OP would switch to trying to flash the HDPI file.. the Nexus One can easily support the "high" so the OP might as well try with that file.
