Google blocks paid apps for unlocked G1 users

Good article but if this is accurate Google didn't think this through at all! Since you can buy a locked phone root it and do all the things that they are trying to prevent.... Punishing those who develop apps and who eventually will help evolve and further your product isn't the answer by a long shot....
 
It is a security issue! People can get paid applications for free... All of that hard work, but none of the compensation...

On the other hand, those people who have unlocked phones can't see any paid apps at all... Not good either.

The best course of action for the end-user, developer, and Google, in my opinion, would be to put a clause in the return policy that says using an unlocked phone can't return the app after purchase. The Dev Phone should be exempt from this... but it can't be because it too is unlocked.

One of the best things would for google to have paid apps locked to the phone they are first registered on... then people could backup their apps and giving the app to someone else wouldnt work on their phone because the app would check the phone number against the apps registered number ...

No protected apps directory would be needed ... win-win-win

I disagree and know that there are already apps running that use just the phone number to make sure that the app is not being run on an authorize phone ...
 
I see a big problem here,lets say that I gave my mobile to my syster because I bought a new one and she uses her SIM card with her phone number.
As you say she needs to pay for all installed applications again in order to use them.
Google needs to find a solution that will allow to use those apps even if I change the SIM card on "Authorized phone".
I don't see the logic here. Why do I need to pay and install all applications again when I use the same device?

No the apps she paid for and free ones installed under her gmail activation will restore all the apps she previously had in her account ...assuming she had one .... I dont think you would want her using your gmail account ...

Not sure what would happen if you both activate under the same gmail account.???

Also unless your sister's sim call was set for a data plan then it wont work ...
