Google calendar sync issue

Hello All!

I've recently moved over to a android from the dark side and Im delighted to have done so. I have one annoying issue which I can solve yet and I'm sure someone has had to deal with this before so I thought it best to ask!

I have both a Samsung tab 3 and S4 Mini and have a problem syncing my Google calendar. As a freelance musician my job involves me taking bookings up to 2 years ahead. Despite my best efforts in changing every setting I can find both on my devices and on Google calendar I cannot get my calendar too sync more than 11 months/12 months ahead. It's worth noting that at a certain stage every month it jumps ahead and syncs for a further 12 months but never a my further.

This problem occurs on both the stock calendar app on both devices (S Planner) and also the standalone Google calendar app and jorte app with no success. This leads me to believe it's a Google calendar issue and not an android thing but on my iPhone it worked ok and I could see all events in the future regardless of how far away they were.

Has anyone any thoughts or experienced this before? I appreciate that not everyone needs to know what they are doing up to 2 years in advance but this issue causes my grief on a daily basis and a resolution would be great if anyone could help!

Martin welcome to the forums.

I find your issue interesting and definitely something I have never heard of before. Do you still have problems if you use the web calendar? I'm assuming the real issue here maybe one of space and just how much space is allotted for the calendar
 
I can't find anything official from Google, but it looks like Calendar Sync only syncs events up to 30 days in the past and up to 90 days in the future. It's small comfort, but you're not alone in having issues with this.

I've seen it mentioned that some third-party calendar apps may be able to get around the limitation, but unfortunately can't make any solid recommendations.

thanks for the replies, when I view the calendar through the native Web browser or any other browser (chrome/firefox) all events appear so it just seems to be via standalone apps which is unfortunate as this is the most intuitive way to add and manipulate events.Viewing via the web browser is much slower and requires that I have a data connection so is less than ideal. I can sync more than 90 days in advance though.

If it's a memory issue I cant understand why my phone and tablet have the same restriction, I've ample storage on both. It's worth mentioning that my wife also has the same issue and she has a Samsung galaxy ace which only syncs around a year ahead

It's a sync issue, not a storage issue - likely done to keep the Calendar from constantly syncing and using up all your MBs and mAHs. And it could be that Samsung's calendar application uses a different approach to syncing events, thus getting around the 90-day limit. Also, you should be able to access calendar.google.com from your mobile browser and view/manage future events that route.

I'll be poking around a bit during my free time to see if I can track down another calendar app that would sync further out.
 
Its a limit imposed by Google on the syncing. I've found a trick to use your desktop pc and export everything from your Google Calendar then delete it, recreate it and re import. This way all the modified data of the events are set to today and all sync.

I'm close to getting off of Google Calendar myself and this is one of the many reasons.
Radicale gave me problems when I would have no connection so I've switched over to OwnCloud.

Basically I'm running my own calendar server at home using an open source app called OwnCloud. You basically install Linux, install/start Apache and copy the OwnCloud download over then a couple setup steps and its working. An app called CalDav-Sync runs on the phone/tablet and syncs with OwnCloud) or any other CalDav server) and does not have the Google limitations. As a test I imported my whole calendar which is 18,000 events spanning two decades and it was able to sync them.

FWIW the dark side has the same issue, I did my trick of deleting and re-creating my calendar to force all to sync and had to reset the borrowed ipad, it could not complete the sync.
 
I have this issue with both my Galaxy S Advance and my Galaxy S Note 10.1 2014, both with the stock S Planner and the Google Calendar app.

Just one question: it was suggested that this limitation has been implemented as a data saving measure, but I would assume that data use depends on the overall number of events, not on how far in the future they are???
 
How to synchronize Jorte-Tasks into google-calender?

Hello, I am new here, you seem to be all experts, so sorry if I ask a stupid question. For one entire day I read through all the forum discussions concerning my problem - there is a lot written about it - but I simply couldn't find the solution .... Perhaps someone of you can help me - I would appreciate it a lot.

I have a Wiko Darkside Andoid Handy with the Jorte Calender App installed. I use it in the google calender mode and I have set the android settings to synchronisation. I only "feed" the calender with information (events & tasks) from my mobile phone. Never from the PC - actually I don't "actively" use the PC google-calender (for input) at all. My simple goal is to have a save copy of all my Jorte info that I put into the mobile phone (events & tasks) in case that I loose the mobile phone or that I don't have it with me. As I have a gmail account with all my contacts saved (and I sync these with my android adress list - works perfectly) I thought that the easiest way to have such a second online-backup is to sync the data entered in to my jorte-mobile-app with the Google-Calender of my gmail account. Concerning the "events" all sync works perfectly. The problem is the "tasks" that I enter into by jorte calender on the mobile phone. They don't appear on my google calender (on the PC). Would be incredibly thankful for any help!

Google Calendar mode, pre-installed standard apps on Android is set to automatically synchronize with Google calendar, and at Jorte Calendar mode, it is required to set Jorte Account(free of charge) and then synchronize with Jorte Cloud Server."

It looks like there are 2 modes for Jorte so I would guess you would need to be in Google Calendar Mode for syncing to work. I'm not familiar with the app but hope that helps.
 
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it a lot! Unfortunately, I think this is not the problem. I have chosen the Google Calendar Mode - therefore my jorte- "events" are copied perfectly to the google-calendar - the problem only occurs with the "tasks" ...
 
Seems like this problem hasn't been resolved. I saw you discovered one of the other Jorte threads on here where others are experiencing the same problem ie calendar syncs but tasks don't.
It may be an idea to see if you can contact the developer for assistance as there doesn't seem to be a solution (or if there is, I couldn't find it).

I remember this never used to be an issue with the Galaxy Note I used to have, but every other android device I've used has had this problem. I too take bookings years in advance and just had a double booking caused by this issue so I'm keen to now get rid of my xperia z2 and buy a note 4/5.

Can anyone with a note 4/5 confirm whether or not you can add an event in your phone more than 12 months in advance that will then show up in google calendar on line (and vice versa)?

I thought i'd revive this as I've experienced the same issues as the initial thread post. S Planner and Google Callendar apps do not show events that are in my google calendar for summer 2017 (over a year in future). I have added these events on PC's and laptops etc. and they appear on my iPad Calendar and in google callendar in browsers. So it's just the apps on my Galaxy S6 edge which aren't showing these events. Events I add in the near future do sync okay to these apps.

I even took the S6 into a Samsung shop today and they didn't know why it wasn't syncing these events.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and if there is a fix?

I tried a lot of Calendar Apps on my phones, and just gave up on all of them until I came across this one.

Upto seems to work seemlessly with Google's online calendar.
Sync is not instant, but it the updates always show up on the other end, regardless of which way I schedule them.

Prior to this, I was using Jorte Calendar which is pretty good on Google, but not so well with Yahoo's calendar.
But I am thinking this is more Yahoo problems than Jorte's

Hi, I've had this issue and it is a Google limitation which may or may not be resolved in the future. Calengoo calendar is the only android app I can find that doesn't have this problem as it syncs directly with Google (not using the android system) Make sure you select that option in settings, and don't use the phone account. You have to buy it but there is a 3 day trial version available under the details on Play Store. It took me a few hours to get it configured but now I have I wouldn't be without it. I also need to see non-recurring events beyond 12 months so this app has been a great find. Hope this helps :)
 
I'm experiencing the same issue, but in addition to comments on my Galaxy S5 not syncing more than one year in the future, when searching on my Google Calendar on my Laptop it won't display all of the search items. For example, I like to keep up-to-date on movie releases in theaters, so I've entered those into my Calendar individually through 2010, each with the suffix "(Movie)" so when I search "Movie" on my calendar, they all show up. Point being that when I do the search for "Movie" the Calendar states that there are 41 results, but only displays 17 of them up to the date of June 2017. There is no option for additional search pages, and no option within Settings to view farther into the future. Why is this?
 
Users have been asking for this feature since at least 2009. It's been 8 years. Google apparently wants us to stop using their Calendar.

If the purpose of a calendar is to remember events, a calendar will lose its purpose if it forgets events. Google Calendar forgets events. Therefore, Google Calendar has lost its purpose.

It's basic logic, Google. This design undermines Google Calendar's core function. It's the wrong solution to whatever problem it solved.
