Google Calendar Sync to Phone Problem

:confused:Hi,
I've checked thru many Google Sync problems in this forum and believe my problem is sufficiently different to warrant a new thread.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (unrooted) and am using the supplied Calendar app.
I use the Google Calendar Sync utility on my XP PC to sync my Outlook calendar with my Google Calendar - this is working fine.
However since a recent trip to Poland I've noticed sync problems with entries on my phone (so time zones could be relevent).
What seems to be happening is as follows :-
Adding a new entry on PC gets carried forward to Google and onwards to phone. Deleting an entry on PC causes the entry to be deleted on Google calendat and the phone. However when amending an existing entry on the PC, it gets carried forward to the Google Calendar successfully but does not get forwarded to the phone.
I noted the suggestion to clear the storage for the Calendar Storage app via Manage Applications, tried this, calendar reset correctly from Google Calaendar, but if I susequently amend an existing entry it still doesn't get carried forward to the phone.
I have checked that my Google account is set up correctly in Calendar Settings and both "Background data" and "Auto-sync" are ticked.
I come back to a potential time zone settings - only because I don't fully understand why anything is working (!). My PC is set to GMT+1 (British Summer Time), the Google Calendar timezone is shown as GMT+0 (if I change to GMT+1 all Google calendar entries are moved an hour forwards and no longer correspond with my PC's Outlook Calendar, so I reset to GMT+0 which makes the entries compatible on the Google and Outlook calendars).
The phone calender shows GMT+1 (London/Dublin) but all calendar entries (after the above reset) correspond with the Google & Outlook calendars.
The time-zone thing may be a complete red herring but I mention it as the problem was only noticed after a journey across time-zones (I didn't make any change to the phone before/after the trip re time or time zone !).
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what is going on here ?
Regards.

Hmm.. have you thought about looking into another calendar app? I would highly recommend Business Calendar. It syncs with Google's calendar almost instantly, and you can customize it to your liking quite well.

While I have had 0 problems with Business Calendar, I have had problems with Google in the past. Minimal, but serious bugs have been experienced when editing dates. Initially, it was completely bewildering to see problems with Google, but I've had accidental duplicates appear, incrementing by 1 day, and even worse, deletions in and/or around repeated dates.

As an individual using their calendar for personal use, I can trust Google with protecting and giving me the proper dates for dental appointments and-the-like. However, I would not recommend it at all for business and executive level use. Until all the bugs and kinks are evenly ironed out, I would look around for another calendar app that does not rely on Google's servers. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestion, have downloaded Business Calendar Free and like the look of it. Unfortunatelly I assume it is using the same base data (?) as the stock calendar as it is exhibiting the same problem !

I'm sorry to hear that, I wish I knew why your phone wasn't pulling up your calendars properly. Are you able to set your phones' GMT settings to +0?

Your phone might be recognizing two totally different calendars; a full calendar (GMT+0), and an empty calendar (GMT+1)? I'm really not sure though.

Have you thought about changing all your Google entries back an hour so that you could change the GMT up an hour to +1? I would imagine that would make for a better sync across Outlook and your phone :p

I have now tried the following : Deleted my Google Calendar, reset to CET (GMT+1) and re-sync'd from PC. All calendar entries on Google calendar were brought forward 1 hr. Phone calendar entries showed correct time but reminders were 1hr in advance - didn't resolve the sync problem !
Deleted Google calendar again and reset timezone to GMT+0, re-sync'd, all calendar/times/reminders OK, unfortunatelly sync problems still present (even after forcing a sync from the phone).
Took the drastic step of resetting the phone (wish I hadn't - know know how much application data isn't backed up to Google servers !) and the problem is still with me !
:(

Stop press ! Contrary to earlier advice the sync problem seems to be resolved after all - now to sort out the phone following the reset !

hi Canarytops,
If it makes you feel any better, my wife is having the same trouble on her iphone with the icloud.
Only thing is, not sure if backing up her iphone to itunes before resetting will keep me from losing data.
At least with my Galaxy Note, the reset trick works.

I am a light calendar user and I have never had a problem. Wifey uses it for her business and has calendar problems at least once a month.
We have used phones with the Palm operating sysytem, Windows, iPhone, and Android. None of them are very dependable when it comes to the calendar. It's been a while since we tried Windows, probably gonna try it again (for wifey).

I always wonder, what is so complex about calendar events that they get messed up?
