Help Google Calendar

I have a calendar app (not Google) whose icon always shows the current day/date. I was considering switching to the Google calendar as it has some features I would like. However, the icon seems fixed - just showing the number "31". Seems odd.

I know I can change the look of the icon, but am I correct in assuming that there's no way I can change it to have the functionality of my other calendar app icon, showing the current day/date? That this is something Google would have to program into the app. I do have a date widget in the notification bar, but it would still be helpful to have it in the larger icon display.

Thanks go any feedback.

I don't think you can.

A quick look through Play and this looks like it may be just what you're looking for. Maybe give it a try and see. I actually just installed it, the widget has 3 size choices but all look like regular icons. Select which calendar to use. Done. It's about as simple as you can get, it just sits there and updates the day :)
