Help Google contacts not syncing- 5 days

Hi folks,
TIA for any help here. Last Sunday half my google contacts disappeared from my Note 4 and it won't sync. I have tried...
Restarting
Power down/up
Made sure "all contacts" selected
Force syncing the account
Deleting/Re-adding the account
My device appears to be stuck in contact sync for the google account. If I try to cancel the sync I get the "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." The folks at Verizon have told me this periodically happens with google.... but for 5 days?

Well, I have had that happen for a couple of days. Not 5 as far as I know. If you log into google on a PC are your contacts all there?

Try calling the folks at Google and tell them the issue. They can run a diagnostic on your account.
