Google Docs

Hello. I've just installed Google Docs V1.0.6r from the Android Market on a ZTE V9 tablet rubbing Android 2.2. In the various libraries on the microSD card I have lots of files migrated from a Windows desktop in various formats (.doc, .xls. .pdf, .xps, just as examples) and I understand the latest version of Google Docs is supposed to enable viewing of all these files. When I start Google Docs it finds 0 files that it is compatible with, saying I have 0 files?? What am I doing wrong?? I can open SOME of these files OK with Docs to Go (another Android file viewer)...:confused::confused:

I believe google docs can open those file if they are uploaded onto your google docs account. I don't think it can read your stuff stored locally on your SD card.

Dylo...thank you, good direction, have uploaded and viewed some files on the droid BUT I now have a new problem. Google Docs is supposed to be able to handle .xps document viewing in the current release but it doesn't...:(??

I just tried uploading an xps document and I couldn't view it. Don't know what the issue is. Did you make it with word? Maybe if you create it with another tool, it will work.

Dylo,

.xps is a print formating option available on Windows to save printouts in soft form. It's a proprietary Microsoft format that's supposed to compete with .pdf documents. I saw on a very recent blog that Google had added .xps support to Google Docs, also very recently, perhaps that release of the product hasn't made it onto Android Market yet.

I'm trying to copy a sheaf of douments across to the android tablet for travel and unfortunately because generally they were created on Windows Explorer from various web sites, most are .xps documents. It's the age old story in technology of open standards vs competitive advantage through differentiation....the user usually loses!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
