Google Earth Is In The Market

It's nice looking, but after a while it just crashes, or should I say, exits, and then after you come back in, it takes you to the original place where it left.

I had to uninstall a few apps, as it's a memory hog

I wish this worked on the AOSP 2.1 ROM for the Hero, but there's some sort of OpenGL compatibility issue. >:(

Only Nexus One running 2.1 or Droids with ROMs that "trick" the Market into believing they are running 2.1 can use this application. This application has an api of 7 the highest at the moment.

On a Milestone with 2.0.1 and not in the Canadian app market. If we can't win at hockey at least give us this app! :(

what's the difference between google earth and google maps satellite view. the only thing i can see is that google earth has a lot more fork and knife signs (restaurants) than google satellite

I thought Google Earth used much more local content (and is therefore quicker and allows e.g. flight simulators) whereas google maps is 100% web delivered.

The maps in '3d' for a start, you can see contours and goes down to a much lower detail level than maps!

Sorry for bumping a month's old thread (guess it is better than making a new topic), but I just got the Incredible and I can't find Google Earth.

Nodders:

That link worked, and I succeeded in installing it manually on my Motorola Milestone (Canadian Droid) updated to Android 2.1. It does not appear for me in the Android Market, and doing a search for it at m.google.com/earth turns up a 'not found' error.

Google Earth works on the Milestone, but I see little value in it over Maps, which came installed on the Milestone. I'll leave it there as I have the room on the phone, but it is unlikely that I'll use it much, if at all.

My daughter has it on her recently purchased iPod Touch, and it works better on that unit than on my Milestone. It performs on her 'Touch' much like it does on my Linux laptop (Dell Vostro 1710), with the initial zoom from the globe to where you are currently located functioning normally. Not so on the Milestone. The globe just sits there until you zoom in on it manually. Too bad that apparently less care went into the Android version than the Apple version.
