Root Google-free experience? Pros & Cons?

I used to be all about Google, and remaining synced up, I loved how Google always had a decent 'perspective' on which direction I was thinking and acting, but after 4 or 5 years, I think I'm over it.

The last ROM I downloaded & flashed, I didn't even bother with downloading the GAPPS, and wow, I won't lie at all, android is difficult as h%@l without Google. I'm managing so far, lmao, but it's only been 24 looooong hours! Jk, I know...

The most difficult thing so far has been finding a decent alternative to the app store without using amazon, but I think I'm going to grab that, Unless there are any more suggestions out there... I hope so. !And-(If you're reading this and you plan on doing this as well, make sure you get a backup of your contacts, vcf style. Makes the transition a little easier. )

The main things that kept me riding the Google express were Maps (because of public transportation), Google play (store), and the ability to keep my contacts always backed up and easily accessible across multiple devices. Oh, and chrome was a bit of it to.

I'm not deleting my account, by any means, I just don't want all of it going on behind the scenes in my device all the freaking time.

Does anyone have anymore suggestions on ways to make a Google-free environment more comfortable and efficient?

Any and All input is greatly appreciated-
