Google glass communication

How do google glass get the info. via wifi or a gsm sim card is required for google glass. i am quite confused how its getting the data. does it work like the garmin GPS device. please clarify me.
 
I'm not part of the development team, but from what's been released I'm guessing that it's wifi, just like a tablet.
